Mr. Maxim Thorne serves as an Executive Vice President of Development of The Paley Center for Media and responsible for expanding and deepening the Paley Center’s impact and resources. Mr. Thorne oversees all Development and fundraising activities and is focused on developing key external alliances in the philanthropic community.
He joined to the Paley Center from a long career as a senior development executive, a thought leader, lawyer, and philanthropist. Mr. Thorne served as Vice President and General Counsel of BOS Development, where he directed the Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy.
Previously, he was appointed the Senior Vice President and Chief Development and Communications Officer of the NAACP, which included the NAACP Image Awards, the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Human Rights Campaign; and Executive Director of New Jersey Head Start.
He serves on the Yale Board of Governors, the Executive Committee of Yale Law School, the National Board of GLAAD, the National Board of Yale Black Alumni Association, and the Advisory Board of the Division of Gender, Sexuality & Health, Columbia University Department of Psychiatry and NYS Psychiatric Institute. He also teaches courses in philanthropy, law, and management at Yale University.
He is focused, as The Paley Center for Media is, on the importance of philanthropy and media in a healthy civil society, and founded Philanthropy in Motion, which convenes and trains next generation donors in effective philanthropy in China, Nigeria, South Africa, India, Pakistan, and elsewhere. Mr. Thorne received his B.A. in Economics and Political Science, cum laude honors, from Yale University, and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.
