Sonya A. Collins,
Author, Volunteer, Mentor
Sonya A. Burnham-Collins is a Senior Product Manager at Express Scripts Inc. (a Pharmacy Benefit Manager), with 20 years’ experience in the corporate environment, consistently ensures the long-term viability of a multi-million dollar Medicare/Medicaid product portfolio. She is considered a “process improvement guru” who takes a disjointed product and molds it into a more efficient client ready service offering. As such, she has produced healthy, enduring results for high echelon clients including major health plans, government agencies and non-profits.
Sonya received her B.S. in Business Administration/Marketing from Rowan University. Upon graduation she was hired by US Trust; a private wealth asset manager as a Pension Benefit Product Analyst. She worked in financial services for eight years with Bank of New York and JPMorgan Chase; with each role increasing her rank and developing her skill of process improvement and project management.
Sonya graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with her M.Sc. in Business Administration/Project Management, and went on to work for AON (Hewitt) as a Product Manager of Defined Benefit Plans (Pension Plans), and finally began her career in 2006 with Express Scripts.
Sonya’s dedication and commitment to public service and volunteerism was motivated by her family. A native of Guyana, South America, she lived in Jersey City, NJ during her childhood, and had the privilege of growing up with people of mixed ethnic and socio economic backgrounds. As a child and through college, her service to her community expanded in many ways to include but not limited to; raising money to fight hunger, serving as a Girl Scout and later a Daisy troop leader, and service as President of the Rowan chapter of the NAACP (where she was presented with a leadership award).
After graduating from college Sonya served as a member of and helped to start a number of grassroots boards with emphasis on: Mental Health, Student Achievement and College Prep and HIV Awareness.
She is a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service sorority; where she has held a number of leadership roles including past president of the Bergen County Alumnae Chapter. She is also the current board president of the YWCA Bergen County, whose mission is “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women”; a message that affirms her personal philosophy.
Obeying a call to serve, Sonya has recently self-published her first children’s book, “God’s Love: A Poem for Children”, encouraging a movement that promotes the education of spirituality and religious tolerance to young children. The book targets (but is not limited to) children in pre-school through second grade and illustrates God in nature and the arts. The next book in the series will illustrate the importance of Faith and believing in what one can not see.
Sonya believes that everyone should define their purpose and live life on purpose. As the mother of two young children (Elijah-6, Amelia 3), she has taken very seriously the role that God has gifted to her and is committed to raising whole children, and whenever possible encouraging as many mothers within her reach to do the same.
